Help Clean Frederick’s Watershed: Your Support Makes a Difference!

I’m raising $500K to form a group in Frederick, Maryland, focused on cleaning up our local rivers, streams, and lakes, including Lake Linganore, our backup drinking water source. Most people don’t realize that the pollution here doesn’t just stay local—it flows into the Chesapeake Bay and then out into the ocean, causing a chain reaction of problems. Currently, the waterways in Frederick, Maryland are rated as poor.

When our waters fill up with pollutants like farm runoff, wastewater spills, and invasive species, these harmful chemicals, bacteria, and nutrients travel downstream, eventually fueling massive algae blooms in the ocean. These blooms create “dead zones,” where marine life can’t survive, disrupting the entire marine ecosystem and affecting the seafood we eat, the air we breathe, and even the stability of our climate.

To tackle this problem at its source, my plan includes introducing natural water filters—mussels—to help clean our rivers and streams. We’ll also plant more native vegetation to absorb harmful runoff and push for policy changes, like stricter building regulations and updated zoning permits. My background in public health will guide these efforts, ensuring we make impactful changes that not only clean up our waters but prevent further pollution.

By addressing pollution locally, we’re stopping harmful chemicals before they reach the ocean. Your support isn’t just about cleaner local waters; it’s an investment in the health of our oceans, our environment, and ultimately, you and your family. Together, we can create positive change that ripples from Frederick all the way to the sea.
